Directions
Leave Bisbee on US 80 and travel to the border town of Douglas, AZ. Follow East 15th Street through Douglas as you leave the city heading east on the Geronimo Trail before riding next to the US/ Mexico border wall. You’ll pass by the San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge and the turnoff to Slaughter Ranch, both of which would make interesting side excursions. The route heads into the Peloncillo Mountains and the Coronado National Forest as the scenery changes to woodland trees and rock formations. You will cross the state line into New Mexico about 3 miles after arriving at the Coronado National Forest. Continue traveling into the mountains to Clanton Draw, where there is a monument memorializing the Mormon Batallion which passed through here in 1846.
Continue further through wide open country to Animas, NM where you can get gas. Continue west with an optional lunch stop at Sky Islands Grill and Grocery or the Portal Store Cafe & Lodge in Portal, AZ before continuing south on the pavement of US 80 to Douglas and Bisbee. Keep your eyes peeled for the Geronimo Surrender Monument located just before Apache, AZ.
