Sunrise Coffee on the Black Rock Desert
This is what a sunrise looks like in the Black Rock Desert. The air is cool and silence prevails as I watch the day begin.
After the Windstorm
Last night I went to sleep underneath my tarp but the wind changed direction and I had to replace it with my tent. Good thing I have both.
Desert for Breakfast
Strawberry shortcake, made from Twinkies and frozen strawberries I packed inside of a Hydro Flask with some ice.
Smooth and Fast
I head off in a burst of speed, eager to feel the smooth surface of the playa under my wheels.
Phillipe the Frenchman
Phillipe the Frenchman. Founder of the Black Rock Motorcycle Club. He rides his electric trials motorcycle in the hills around Gerlach.
Electric Trials Bike
Phillipe invited me to film him with my drone. I was able to capture this shot as he came down the hill on his trials bike.
The Most Remote Road in America?
I’m heading toward Oregon and the road is becoming extremely remote. Fortunately, I remember to fill my water bottles before heading into this hot desert.
Goodbye, for now
My arrival at the Nevada-Oregon border near the town of Denio Junction. For the next few weeks I will be filming the Oregon BDR for Backcountry Discovery Routes. See you when I return!
